Self Catering Holidays Putting Guesthouses Out of Business

In the town of Weston, UK guesthouse owners say they have been seeing business decline over the last decade as tourists move away from traditional holidays in favor of shorter self catering holidays at local apartments. The improvements to the Weston seafront have been little help to these business owners, and some are making plans to convert their guesthouses into self catering flats as a fall-back.

Many of the traditional small, family-run guesthouses in the town are disappearing. Recent surveys found that more visitors were going to the resort for the day only, rather than two days or more as was common in the past. This is being attributed to a more value-conscious attitude among travelers to the resort, but some guesthouse owners still hold out hope that business will improve along with the economy in the UK.
